THE HOME – MADE, PURCHASED OR GIVEN PT 8

I left off with the last part of this series with Isaac and Rebekah being brought together by the will of God.  As we continue, we can love whom we choose providing both partners receive the same kind of love they give, and have their lives first committed to God in submission to His will.  You have heard of love growing stronger.  This is the result of the fellowship of two people who have the same purpose in mind, and find in the other the faith, will-power, and courage to make it happen together.

Why was the marriage of Isaac and Rebekah successful?  They both knew the same God and accepted His direction.  “Can two walk together except they be agreed?”  Amos 3:3.  One of the most important agreements in married life is the agreement to walk with God, to see His leadership, and having been led, follow Him.

Previously, Isaac had experienced the deliverance of God from bodily death.  God has called upon Abraham to offer up Isaac as a burnt offering but stayed his hand when He saw Abraham was obedient in all things.  This experience may have caused Isaac to understand that God’s provision was far greater than his own.  Therefore, he became willing to accept and love the one whom God gave through the Father’s faithful servant.

Rebekah the bride also shared in the acceptance of God’s will, or she never would have exercised the faith to leave family in order to follow the bridegroom whom she had never seen.  What made her do this?  She believed the servants message about the bridegroom and believed the sign that was placed in answer to prayer was God’s sign and direction.  This type of love must be given, but when given by each, it will make the home a pleasant place.

May you have a home filled with love as we celebrate the birth of Christ our Savior.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
